Fall = Fair Isle

Every autumn I just want to knit, wear and look at Fair Isle knitting. The intricate pattern, the endless possibilities for colour combinations make Fair Isle knitting ever interesting.

I just knitted some boot cuffs from my Fair Isle boot cuff pattern to play around with colours. I love the traditional colours too and have used them in my Skroo Sock pattern.Fair

The other day I got my pullovers, cardigan and sweater out to admire them (it is still too hot to wear these lovely warm knits). My Fair Isle collectionSome are vintage finds and some are new treasures.

This lovely cardigan I had someone knit for me in the Shetland Islands. It is the pattern from the pullover the Prince of Wales wore in the 1920s when playing golf at St Andrews in Scotland.

I have two pullovers that I love to wear over a white blouse. It gives a great retro look. One is a vintage find and the other I bought in Lerwick in Shetland at Anderson´s years ago.

My latest pride is a brand new sweater from Oldfield Clothing in England. They specialise in British sport clothing inspired by the period form 1920s to 1940s – so we are not talking Lycra here!

IMG_3888I love summer and want it to last as long as possible, but when the crisp, cool air of autumn arrives I will be wearing my Fair Isle woolies and be happy!
