The beauty of time spent knitting

The lock-down has given a lot of people more time. We don’t travel to work and a lot of us don’t travel for leisure either. More time on our hands has for many resulted in more knitting needles and yarn in our hands!

There are so many beautiful things that comes with knitting;
1) you are not constantly on social media – and when you are you have something beautiful to share!
2) you make things to wear or to gift. You don’t contribute to fast consumption of the same items as you knit
3) you have time to think, digest and reflect on life
…I could go on and on and I am sure you have things to add too.

If you haven’t already a pile of finished lock-down knitting projects I have some suggestions for you. Particularly if you are new to knitting this might be useful.

First thing first:
Start with something easy that you can finish in a week or less. I suggest a scarf or a hat to start with.
I have made a pattern for a simple but fun scarf that gives you the opportunity to play with your favourite colours. The pattern is free to download form my Ravelry store. A great thing about this scarf is that there are no loose ends to weave in when you have finished. They make up the fringes!

Another great project for lock-down is this bedside rug. It’s fast and easy to knit up and lovely and squishy to set your feet on in the morning! This pattern is also free to download on my Ravelry page.

If you feel adventurous and want to try knitting in the round, this cup cosy is a great little project to start off with. The cosy fits most to-go cups and will keep your coffee nice and hot for you to enjoy. The pattern is available for free on Ravelry.

Keep your favourite brew pipping hot with this lovely cup cosy.

I hope you have found some inspiration here. Time spent knitting is time spent making beautiful and useful items! More than I can say about the time I spend browsing social media aimlessly.

Happy knitting and may the pandemic fade away quickly.
